Premium Filament High Tenacity Polyester Sewing Thread: Three Aspects to Understand Its Some Characteristics
Release time:2025-04-20 Click:30Choose one proper sewing thread, can save time and save money in long-term business running, we could see some characteristics of premium Filament Polyester Sewing Thread as below:
1. Breaking Tenacity (Tensile Strength)
Breaking tenacity refers to the maximum external force a unit denier (D) of thread can withstand before breaking. This metric is crucial as it directly impacts:
● The breakage rate during the sewing process.
● The seam breakage (thread break) rate of the sewn products during use.
● The hand feel of the sewing thread.
Currently, the breaking tenacity of most high tenacity polyester filament sewing threads reaches at least 5-7 grams per denier (g/d). Some threads made specifically from polyester industrial yarn can achieve 9 g/d. Some premium thread brands typically produce filament high tenacity polyester sewing thread with strengths concentrated in the 7-8 g/d range, which manufactured from tenacity 8-8.5 g/d polyester filament fiber.
2. Shrinkage (%)
# Boiling Water Shrinkage (BWS): This reflects the heat-setting degree and dimensional stability of the filament in boiling water. It is calculated as the percentage ratio of the length contracted after boiling a fixed-length filament in boiling water for a specific time (e.g., 30 minutes) compared to its original length.
# Dry Heat Shrinkage (DHS): This refers to the percentage reduction in length of a filament after exposure to a specific elevated temperature (e.g., 177°C).
Shrinkage is closely linked to dyeing performance and significantly influences the values and stability of many other thread performance indicators.
Low-shrinkage fibers are preferable to make high quality filament high tenacity polyester sewing threads. Achieving high breaking tenacity often coincides with higher shrinkage, while lower shrinkage tends to result in lower breaking tenacity. Therefore, simultaneously maintaining high breaking tenacity and achieving low shrinkage requires significant technological effort and cost. Filament high tenacity polyester sewing thread in TAYYON is typically made from fiber material with tenacity 8.5g/d and shrinkage 2%.
3. Coefficient of Variation (CV %)
The Coefficient of Variation (CV) is a statistical measure of data dispersion. It represents the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean, expressed as a percentage. It reflects the fluctuation amplitude of the sewing thread's actual performance parameter values relative to their standard values and is a vital indicator of the thread's quality stability.
These coefficients of variation are typically calculated for the thread's key parameters, such as:
● Linear Density (Thread Size/Count)
● Breaking Tenacity
● Breaking Elongation
● Twist Level (S/Z)
